Research Grant
AWMA has demonstrated its commitment to wound research in Australia by establishing the Australian Wound Management Research Foundation in September 2004. The aims of the Foundation are to foster further research on wounds within Australia and to provide modest funding to support such research through a Research Grant. The priority areas of research for funding are currently:
- Fungating/malignant wounds
- Support surfaces to prevent pressure injuries
- Wound infection, including early detection and effective management
- Wound assessment tools/ scales
- Lymphoedema/skin assessment tools/scales
- Health service models for wound management
- Compression therapy/ other devices to increase venous and/or lymphatic return
- Symptom/sign management (e.g. pain, eczema, exudate)
- Prevalence of wounds
- Cost effectiveness of therapies
- Risk factors for delayed healing
- Impact of wounds on quality of life
- Strategies to translate evidence into practice

Grant Terms
- Projects must commence within six months of receiving notification of a successful grant, and appropriate approvals gained by this time (e.g. HREC, Site approvals). If Human Research Ethics Committee approval (HREC) is not sought please provide an explanation as to why. If being conducted as a quality assurance project, HREC approval as such is still required to be eligible for grant.
- All projects must be undertaken in accordance with the National Health & Medical Research Council Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research
