Wound Practice and Research

The Australian Journal of Wound Management

Primary Intention is the official journal of the Australian Wound Management Association Inc. In 2008 the journal changed its name to Wound Practice and Research to be better identified with the material included- not all readers in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand, immediately associate the original name with a wound and tissue repair journal. The inaugural issue of the journal was published in November 1993. Wound Practice and Research is a refereed journal that is published quarterly in February, May, August and November. It is distributed to a readership of over 5000 throughout Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. The journal is also circulated to many individuals and companies nationally and internationally who are involved in research into wounds and wound healing, and/or distribute wound management products

Wound Practice and Research is gaining a strong reputation as a source of reference for clinicians in the field of wound research, clinical wound management, stomal therapy, infection control and pharmacy. The journal can be found in many medical or nursing tertiary education and hospital libraries in Australia and New Zealand. The journal is indexed with CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature).

The focus of the journal is primarily in discussing and portraying issues on wound management within Australia and surrounding countries. Within each issue there are usually four to five papers that relate to such topics as the science of wound healing, the aetiology of wounds, the care of acute and chronic wounds, wound research, wound care in the community and quality of life issues.

Other regular features of the journal are an editorial, book reviews, product evaluations and product information released by the manufacturers of wound care products and related devices. Abstracts of papers from the Australian Wound Management Association’s conferences are printed biannually after the conferences. The contents of Wound Repair and Regeneration, the official journal of The Wound Healing Society, The European Tissue Repair Society, The Japanese Society for Wound Healing and The Australian Wound Management Association are reproduced with permission of Blackwell Science Inc.

To facilitate networking between the Australian Wound Management Association, state and international associations there is a Wound Management Directory for each state wound management association and contact addresses for other international wound healing societies. Information regarding Australian wound management courses and advance notice of local and international wound care conferences are also listed.

The Editorial Board of Wound Practice and Research consists of seventeen members. The Board is multidisciplinary and has representatives from the disciplines of medicine, nursing, allied health and scientific research. Each article presented for publication is reviewed by two referees who include both members of the board and external reviewers who are experts in their field. The editors also review each article. Wound Practice and Research is published and distributed by Cambridge Media, Perth, Western Australia.
