Welcome to the AWMA Contact and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. This page is offered as a service to provide members and the public with further information related to this website and the Association.

Please Note: AWMA cannot provide health care advice to individuals. Individual care circumstances will always differ and are best dealt with face to face by your local Health Care Professional.

Members and the public are encouraged to seek answers from the FAQ sections before contacting AWMA directly. Should the FAQ section/s not fully answer your query, contact details of the most appropriate person to direct any further questions to are provided.

Questions will be answered as quickly as possible, however it MUST be noted that members of AWMA are volunteers and as such their ability to respond to individual questions is limited. As a reminder, search this website for answers to questions before submitting questions.

Clinical Questions / Information Requests (Wound Healing, Wound Concerns etc)

Q1 I have a concern about the wound management of a family member, friend or patient. Is AWMA able to provide advice on care or the right products to use?
A1. AWMA does not currently have the ability to provide information regarding specific individual wound management concerns.
Wound management often involves a series of complex issues and each individual’s circumstances and needs will differ. These issues cannot be addressed or resolved through an electronic medium such as this.
AWMA advocates that all wound management practices be based on best available evidence, and that wounds be managed by health care practitioners who are appropriately qualified and experienced.
The AWMA website contains a Links Page where further information regarding wound management can be obtained.
Some State Associations provide a list of wound clinics within their area. If a State Association has this information available it can be found on the relevant State/Territory Association pages on the AWMA Website which can be found here (once at this page select the link to the State/Territory of your choice).

Q2. Does AWMA provide information on specific wound treatments or management of particular types of wounds?
A2. AWMA currently has several publications available to guide wound management practice. These can be found on the Publications section of the AWMA website. AWMA does not have the ability to provide information on any other types of wounds or wound treatments at this time.

A3. AWMA does not currently provide this service.
You are encouraged to review the current literature and evidence. This can be found using literature databases such as CINAHL or Medline. AWMA lists some very good on-line information sites which can found on the AWMA Links page.

Membership

Q1.      How do I become an AWMA member?
A1.      You join AWMA is through your local State/Territory Association. This will give you membership benefits for both your State/Territory Association as well as membership to AWMA. Information regarding the conditions and privileges of membership as well as information regarding joining or renewing membership can be found for each State/Territory on the AWMA Website which can be found here (once at this page select the link to the State/Territory of your choice).

Q2.      How much does membership cost?
A2.      Membership costs vary depending on the category of membership appropriate to your circumstances.
The fee structure is consistent across all State/Territory Associations. Membership fees are detailed on the individual State/Territory Membership Application Forms which can be found here (once at this page select the link to the State/Territory of your choice).
Prior to selecting a membership category it is important to read the ‘Membership Types and Categories’ document available here . This ensures you are joining the appropriate membership category for your circumstances.

Q3.      If I am a member of a State/Territory Wound Management Association do I have to join AWMA as well?
A3.      No. Membership of a State/Territory Association (as per the State pages here (link to state page)) provides you with membership of AWMA.

Q4.      I have not received my Journal and/or other information.
A4.      AWMA advises all new members that it can take up to 12 weeks before you receive your first Journal. This is due to the fact that the Journal is published quarterly; therefore depending on when your membership was received and processed you may have missed a mail out deadline.
If you are an existing member and have stopped receiving Journals/Information please contact your State/Territory Association.

A5.      AWMA can not recommend specific conferences or courses. Health professionals are encouraged to review the program structure and content of any course they wish to attend, and gauge the value of the course/conference on its merits.

A6.      AWMA does not run wound management courses.

Q7.      How can I advertise a wound course or conference?
A7.      AWMA will advertise most courses or conferences that are of relevance to its members free of charge. AWMA will consider requests for advertising of courses conducted by the Wound Management Industry (those involved in the manufacture or distribution of wound and related products) on a case by case basis.
To advertise a course or conference there is a criteria to meet and the hosting provider is required to complete the on-line form available on the ‘Courses’ page.
It is the responsibility of the hosting provider to ensure that their information is correct and up to date. Conferences and courses will be removed from the site once they have been held.

Journal – Wound Practice & Research

Q1.      How do subscribe to the Journal?
A1.      The most common way to subscribe to the Journal is to join a local State/Territory Association.
You are encouraged to join a local State/Territory Association as this will give you membership benefits for both your State/Territory as well as membership of AWMA. Information and relevant membership forms can be found for each State/Territory Association on the AWMA Website here (once at this page select the link to the State of your choice).
The Journal (Wound Practice and Research) can also be subscribed to directly with subscription details located on the AWMA Website here .  Contact the Editors for more information [email protected].

Q2.      Is journal subscription provided with membership to a State/Territory Association?
A2.      Yes. Members of AWMA State/Territory Associations automatically receive the Journal as part of their membership fee.

Q6.      Is the Journal available on-line?
A6.      PDF copies of most journal articles are available on the Journal pages of the AWMA website
‘Current issues’ includes the most recent four issues of the journal. These are only available to current financial members via a password. ‘Past issues’ includes issues published more than four issues ago. These can be downloaded from the website without a password.
If you are current financial member of AWMA and do not have a password for accessing the ‘current’ journal issues you will need to contact your State/Territory Association.

Some articles are not available on-line. This usually applies to journal issues published prior to 2001.

A1.      Order forms can be downloaded from the AWMA Website on the ‘Publications Page’ . Once on this page click on the relevant order form, print and send off with your cheque or money order.
Please Note: AWMA does not directly manage the ordering process for Standards and Guidelines as this is managed by the publisher, Cambridge Media. Enquiries regarding ordering should be directed to Cambridge Media in the first instance.

A2.      Yes. AWMA publications are available electronically as PDF documents on the AWMA Website.
The printing of these documents is for individual use only and multiple copies should not be made. If you require multiple copies; some documents can be ordered in hard copy by using the order forms which can be downloaded from this AWMA Website Publications Page. These documents are sold at a cost that covers the costs of printing and distribution. Not all AWMA documents are available in hard copy. Those that are available are listed on the order form.

AWMA Website Information

AWMA will consider requests for advertising of courses conducted by the Wound Management Industry (those involved in the manufacture or distribution of wound and related products) on a case by case basis.
