The Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr, has announced that a submission for a Wound Management Innovation Project under the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Program was successful. The Wound Management Innovation CRC which AWMA is a founding partner was one of 7 CRC’s awarded funding (only 2 of which were successful from the Medical Science and Technology Sector) in this round of funding. Of the $130 million provided by the government for world-class collaborative research and innovation the Wound Management Innovation CRC has received $27.9 million over 8 years. This funding will be used by the Wound Management Innovation CRC to improve wound healing and quality of life for people with wounds, and provide cost-effective wound care that lessens the burden on the health system. The CRC will achieve this through improving understanding of the mechanisms of wound healing; developing novel wound products and processes; and translating best practice wound care into clinical settings. Congratulations are extended to the project leaders Professor Zee Upton & Professor Helen Edwards as well as all associated partners for their commitment to providing this outcome.
