AWMA Education & Professional
The Australian Wound Management Association appointed a sub-committee for Education and Professional Development in 2006. The first task given to the committee was to develop a flexible framework for the accreditation of wound management education within Australia. The Committee now have ready the suggested framework for the basic educational content in wound management for the following modules: The Introduction to Wound Management module is the framework from which all other courses will be developed. Following the members survey it was deemed that most people will only require the basic programs as discussed previously, however, the Committee does understand that there shall be a need to develop more advanced programs in the above topics and to include advanced criteria for such topics as: • Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement Ambulatory burns, paediatric wounds and wound care in developing countries are also being considered. These will follow as the Committee progresses through the current work requirements. The Committee has put together compulsory content and suggested content in order to maintain some standards. An independent external auditor shall review the application forms, appoint endorsement if all areas of content have been satisfied, and review post course evaluation forms in order for the educator/facilitator to achieve and maintain AWMA endorsement status. If you are an educator and you wish to have AWMA endorsement for your wound course, keep an eye on this website for the launch of the accreditation documents in July 2008.
