Wound Management NewsProfile of Raj Mani   PhD, FACA, D Sc

Raj Mani works as a Consultant Clinical Sciences and Senior Lecturer at Southampton University Hospitals Trust, Southampton.  Raj has the role of providing clinical diagnostic services to this 1200 bed facility that serves a population of 400,000 in and around the city.  Raj also leads a research group that is focused on vascular medicine and wound healing.  This is a multidisciplinary group that Raj leads with Cliff Shearman, Professor of Vascular Surgery.

In the 29 years in Southampton, Raj has developed a vascular laboratory and applied several of its techniques to wound healing.  Some 20 graduate students from UK and overseas have worked in this laboratory towards their higher degrees.  Raj has published over 280 original papers and abstracts in wound healing, authored and edited 6 books and participated in the developments of management protocols in Southampton and with the Wound Healing Society, USA. 

Raj is the Founding Editor of the Cochrane Wounds Group and the International Journal of Lower Extremity Wounds and serves on the Editorial Board of Angiology and the Journal of Wound Technology. 

In the last 2 years, Raj has developed an interdisciplinary school in wound healing in Southampton.  He is the current President of the European Tissue Repair Society (ETRS).  Raj is an Honorary Member of the Indian Wound Management Association and serves on the Board of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies.  In 2008, Raj has accepted an invitation to be a Visiting Professor to the famous Shanghai Burns Hospital and Jang Mieung University, Shanghai.
